Quarantine Feelings Project

I wanted everyone to feel as free as I did while I was writing. Complete artistic freedom!

I’m an Argentine film composer based in Milan, Italy, and in March 2020 I had planned to spend two weeks in Argentina to celebrate my birthday (because I am a birthday diva). Of course those two things didn’t happen as I had anticipated: I spent my bday alone and those two weeks became three months. Damn you fucking virus!
In that period all of the projects I was working on were suspended. Being a film composer means writing music for a specific scene of a film. I was so depressed and uninspired for the first month. I was struggling with my own demons, but somehow music always, always saves me.

Little by little I started writing again. As I had no requirements, nor directors/producers telling me what to do, I decided to try new things. It was about time I write down my feelings as I once did when I began my music career. So I started making the music I had always wanted to make but never had the opportunity to do so. I love composing music for films, but it is very satisfying to set myself free once in a while.

When I managed to return to Milan I thought I should do something with the pieces, and I wondered ‘Why not ask some filmmakers to make a video for each one of the pieces?’ ‘Why not ask other artists to do something? Drawings? Poems?’ Yes, I am a bigger dreamer than John Lennon, lol.

I started telling some friends, and everyone loved the idea and brought their own ideas to the project. So we decided we were going to put all the art in a website.

The condition was: there is no condition. Everyone can do whatever the music inspires them to do, how the quarantine made them feel. No request, no limits, no ‘No.’ It’s all ‘Yes’ and ‘Why not?’ Sometimes we -composers, musicians, designers, filmmakers, writers- have our hands tied up for many reasons and make decisions based on that.
